Catherine Wilma Bode, daughter
of Anton and Theresia (Pelster) Bode was born
November 13, 1917 on the family farm northwest
of Raeville, NE. She was baptized and confirmed
at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, attended St.
John Berchman’s grade school in Raeville,
NE., and graduated from Raeville High School.
Catherine helped on the family farm and assisted
in raising her younger siblings after the death
of their mother. She also helped local families
in their homes.
In 1950, she began working for Rev. Norbert Boland
in the parishes of Clyde-Dublin, Wisner, Jackson
and Olean, taking care of the cooking and housekeeping
duties. Following Rev. Boland’s retirement,
she worked for Rev. Godfrey Meiergard in Hooper
and Marianna Retirement Center.
When Catherine retired in 2001, she entered St.
Joseph’s Retirement Center in West Point,
NE. She continued to live there until being hospitalized
in September 2010, after which time she entered
the West Point Living Center. It was there that
she passed away on October 1, 2010 at the age
of 92.
Catherine was a great cook and enjoyed good food.
She loved her many nieces and nephews and truly
enjoyed their visits. Her family and friends could
always count on her to pray for them. She enjoyed
and was very good at “fancy work”,
such as embroidery, smocking; along with other
hand work.
Catherine is survived by two sisters: Viridiann
Gorman of Grand Island, NE; Teresa Marie Schaecher
of Madison, NE; sister-in-law: Dolores Bode of
Elgin, NE; along with many nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; five
brothers: Charles, Sylvester, Joseph, Delbert
