Rena M. Haskin


Rena Maxine Haskin, daughter of John & Florence (Cool) Brandt was born October 11, 1931 at Royal, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church at Winnetoon, NE. She received her elementary education at rural district #21 in Knox County. Rena graduated from Creighton High School in 1948 with Normal Training. She later attended Wayne State College and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education.

On October 27, 1951, Rena was united in marriage to Raymond C. Haskin at O’Neill, NE. To this union, 7 children were born: Roger, Ronald, Susan, Tommy, Terry, Alan, & Kay. She taught school in many rural schools in Knox, Holt, York, & Antelope Counties.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elgin, the Woman’s Fellowship, and was secretary for the church council.

Rena died Monday, February 4, 2008 at the Boone County Health Center in Albion, NE.

She is survived by her husband Ray of Elgin, 5 children: Roger Haskin & wife Carol of Elgin; Susan Beard of Blair; Terry Haskin of Seward; Alan Haskin & wife Kim of Seward; Kay Heins & husband Robbie of Wilsey, KS; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; siblings: Barbara Boubin of Clarkson, NE; Doris Sedivy husband Elmer of Walthill, NE; Charles Brandt & Marcella of Creighton, NE; Betty Hinrichs of Creighton, NE; Joan Hansen of Neligh, NE; Jimmie Brandt & wife Lois of Black Forest, CO; & several nieces and nephews.

Rena was preceded in death by her parents, sons: Tommy and Ron Haskin; sister: Shirley Jacobs; brother: Derlin Brandt; grandson Logan Haskin; and several nieces and nephews.
