In Memory Of

Rigmor E. Meyers

 

Rigmor Elizabeth Meyers, daughter of Edward & Caroline (Sorensen) Nielson was born July 31, 1917 at the family farm west of Elgin, Nebraska. She attended Park Center School through the 8th grade and graduated from Elgin High School in 1934.

On August 25, 1950 she was married to Elden Meyers at the United Methodist Church in Elgin by Rev. McKowen. The couple lived in Elgin where she worked at Pratt’s Five & Dime, 2X4 Café, Parr’s Café, and helped her husband run the Elgin Hatchery. In February 1957, the couple moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked for 27 years at the Ben Franklin Variety Store in Havelock. In the late 1980’s she worked part-time at the Yonkers store at Gateway Shopping Center.

Rigmor was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elgin and the Havelock Methodist Church in Lincoln. She was a Cub Scout den mother and a member of the Rebecca’s Organization.

At the age of 90, Rigmor died on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.

She is survived by 2 sons: Bill Meyers of Waverly; Robert L. Meyers & wife Marie of Omaha; 3 grandchildren: Tammy Meyers of Waverly; Debra Mentzer & husband Scott of Waverly; Elizabeth Meyers of Manassas, VA; 2 great-grandchildren: Zachary & Tristan Mentzer.

Rigmor was preceded in death by her husband Elden in 1984, parents, brothers: Harold & Norman Nielsen; sister-in-law Helen Nielsen; and daughter-in-law Patricia Meyers.

Memorials are suggested to the Eastmont Towers Foundation in Lincoln, NE.
