In Memory Of
Arthur T. Meis

Arthur Theodore Meis, son of Frank Sr. and Genevieve (Lappe) Meis, was born January 29, 1918 at Elgin, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Church in Elgin, attended rural schools and St. Boniface School in Elgin.


On February 12, 1945, Art was united in marriage to Auralia Catherine Kleffner at St. Boniface Church in Elgin. They made their home on a farm southeast of Elgin and lived there for 58 years. To this union, three children were born: Marvin, Arlene and Jerry. Art was a true farmer, raising crops and livestock. In 2003, Art an Auralia moved into a house in town that his grandfather, Meinolph Meis, had built.


Art was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a life-long member of St. Boniface Catholic Church.


He is survived by his wife Auralia of Elgin; three children: Marvin Meis and wife Jodine of Elgin; Arlene Gabelman and husband Roger of Neligh; Jerry Meis and wife Jane of Omaha; five grandchildren: Ben (Anna) Meis; Bart (Toni) Meis; Candi (Dave) Kirkwood; Eric (Brenda) Meis; Monica (Kevin) McMahon; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister Laura Osgood of Napa, CA; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Art was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Frank Jr., Marie Nay, John, Ed, Ida Funk, and Sam.
