Julius Adam Parr, the son of Henry
and Elizabeth (Vogel) Parr was born on December
11, 1908 at Howells, NE. He was baptized and confirmed
at the Catholic Church in Howells. In 1932 his
family moved to Elgin.
On October 14, 1940 Julius was united marriage
to Kathryn Thramer at the St. Boniface Catholic
Church in Elgin. They lived in Elgin where Julius
ran a trucking company with his father-in-law.
Julius and Kathryn owned and operated the Red
Rooster Café in Elgin for 35 years. During
the blizzard of 1948 and 1949 Julius helped the
county out by keeping the roads open, he then
stayed with the county for 4 ½ years. After
that, he worked for the city as police and maintenance
man for about 4 years. Julius served on the Elgin
Fire Department for 27 years, serving as Fire
Chief for several of those years, and for 10 years
he had a gravel business. He also served as the
Antelope County Supervisor for 8 ½ years.
Kathryn died in 1999. In 2007 Julius entered the
Golden Living Center in Neligh, NE. It was there
that he passed away on Friday, October 10, 2008
at 99 years, 10 months of age.
He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church
in Elgin, NE.
Julius is survived by 2 children: Tom Parr and
wife Rita of San Angelo, TX; Patricia Parr and
Bill Stone of Houston, TX; 2 grandsons: Troy Parr
of Mechanicsville, NY; Todd Parr and wife Casey
of Gibbon, NE; 3 grandchildren: Emilee, Addison,
and Nolan Parr of Gibbon, NE; sister Nora Henn
of Albion, NE; along with several nieces, nephews
other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife
Kathryn; 3 brothers: Edward, Maurice and Walter
Parr; and 3 sisters: Philomela Schlenz, Freda
Beha, and Helen Daugherty.
