Margaret Ann Pelster Schrage, daughter
of Joseph and Anna (Uphoff) Pelster, was born
January 23, 1914 at Raeville, NE. She was baptized
and confirmed at St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville
and received her education from St. John Berchman
School in Raeville, graduating with the first
four-year class in 1932.
She went to California in 1934 where she worked
as a nanny and also in a walnut factory. In 1938,
she married Hubert Schrage. They lived in California
for a short time before returning to the Elgin
community to farm. Later, they moved to Idaho
for a few years before returning to their farm
near Elgin in 1951. They continued to live on
the farm until retirement when they moved to town.
Hubert passed away in 1987 and Margaret continued
living in her home until entering the Golden Living
Center in May 2010.
Margaret was a firm supporter of Pope John High
School and St. Boniface Schools, receiving the
Roncalli Award in 2003 for making a significant
contribution to the long term advancement of the
school. She was a member of the St. Boniface Alter
Society and a lifetime member of the Elgin Garden
Club. Margaret and Hubert loved to square dance
and both enjoyed all of their nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband,
two brothers: Cyril Pelster; Joseph Pelster and
wife Delores; two sisters: Marie Moser and husband
Leonard; Florentine Vanderheiden and husband Burt;
and a brother-in-law Leonard Meis.
Margaret is survived by her sisters: Sally Meis
of Petersburg; Ann (Vic) Borer of Albion; sister-in-law:
Viola Pelster of Elgin; along with many nieces,
nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.
