In Memory Of
Marie G. Starman

Marie G. Starman, daughter of Herman and Mary K. (Buelt) Starman, was born November 1, 1923 on a farm northeast of Elgin, NE. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, attended St. Boniface Elementary School and two years at St. Boniface High School before leaving to take a job.


Her first employment, at age 16, was helping to care for foster children on an Indian reservation at Marty, SD, with her sister Louise. On October 1,1954, Marie took a job at the Farmers Grocery Store in Elgin and worked there for 31 years, retiring at the end of 1985.

Marie was a member of the Elgin VFW Auxiliary Unit 5816, serving as president for several years. She enjoyed delivering the holiday cookie plates distributed by the group. Marie was very active at St. Boniface Church; locking and unlocking the doors each day, helping with the school lunch program, and was a member of the St. Boniface Altar Society. She helped with the American Cancer Society’s annual “Daffodil Days” drive and also took in mending jobs in her spare time.


Marie is survived by one sister: Rita Fisher of Tecumseh, NE; two sisters-in-law: Pat Starman of Elgin, NE and Eleanor Starman of Wisner, NE; 1 brother-in-law: Bernard Babe of Denver, CO; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Raymond, Lawrence and Herman Starman; 3 sisters: Louise, Margaret, and Irene; two brothers-in-law: Robert Fisher and Ulrich Rosman; a nephew: Robert Starman; a niece Susan Starman.
