Ernest G. Uhrenholdt, son of Alfred
and Laura Uhrenholdt, was born March 22, 1924.
He passed away at Boone County Health Center on
May 2, 2008. He lived on various farms in Clearwater,
Ewing, and Elgin, moving to his present farm in
1938, where he farmed with his father. He was
a farmer and cattle feeder on the farm until he
retired. He attended Swede school, Park Center,
and graduated from Elgin Public High School in
1941. He then attended the University of Nebraska
at Lincoln and was in ROTC. He returned home to
assist his father in farming as it was wartime.
He was confirmed at Clearwater Rural Lutheran
Church, riding several miles on horseback to attend
confirmation classes. After moving to the Elgin
area he became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was active from his early 20’s in the
church, holding all the various offices.
On May 26, 1950 he married Maxine Nissen at Trinity
Lutheran. They resided on their farm and have
lived there for almost 58 years. To this union
were born their sons, Richard, David, and Dale.
During the ensuing years Ernest was active in
many organizations. He was a member of District
97 School Board, served on the township board,
was involved in Farm Bureau, 4-H Club, and Production
Credit Association. He last served on the League
of Human Dignity Board at Lincoln, but had to
resign because of ill health.
He loved his seven grandchildren dearly and enjoyed
their visits and phone calls in recent years.
He became a proud great-grandfather of twin boys
in April, 2007.
He is survived by his sons Richard (Donna) of
Elgin, Dr. David (Sylvera) Holdt of Scottsbluff,
and Dale of Elgin; grandchildren Heath Uhrenholdt
of San Antonio, Carissa (Jeremy) Thelander of
Lincoln, Rachel Uhrenholdt of Lincoln, Dana Uhrenholdt
of Lincoln, Dr. Adam Holdt of Denver, Alex Holdt
of Scottsbluff, and Sarah Holdt of Lincoln; great-grandchildren
Brayden and Connor Thelander of Lincoln; sister
Dorothy Sindel of St. Louis; and many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers
Gunnar and Harry, sister Mary Olsen, and brother-in-law
Kenny Sindel.
Memorials are suggested to the League of Human
Dignity in Lincoln, Nebraska.
